Mrs. Barbara Murphy passed in early December of 2001 after a battle with cancer. She was, of course, a long-time Fairport High School English teacher. She was also active in the community, serving on the Fairport Zoning Board, and an active member of the Atheneum.

Add your memories of Mrs. Murphy with  My Memories Form.

Mrs. Murphy was a role model for me in my career as a teacher . . . she expected her students' intellects to work hard, at an adult level, and she never lost her sense of humor (which at times could be painfully sharp!).

I always saw Mrs. Murphy as the teacher's teacher in the department. Every time I was in their office, she was sharing something with one of the other teachers. She was a mentor before the concept was fashionable.
