CHESAPEAKE - They found the beef.

A 6-foot-tall Chick-fil-A cow snatched off an Interstate 464 billboard last week turned up over the weekend in a patch of woods more than a mile east of the sign. Police did not immediately return phone calls, but the tow-truck driver hired to round up the cow said it appeared to be unharmed. The cow was found lying on its side just off a dirt trail behind Ardmore Avenue in northern Chesapeake.

"This is the funniest thing that’s ever happened to me on the job," said Billy Adams of Dale Olds Wrecker Service.

Chick-fil-A’s Mark Baldwin said the cow is currently in the impound lot of the Chesapeake Police Department. "I can’t help it," Baldwin said. "I laugh every time I say that." Chick-fil-A had offered a year’s worth of free chicken sandwiches for tips leading to the cow’s return. Since the cow is valued at $3,200, it’s a felony to steal one.

There’s been no word yet if anyone has claimed the reward.
