Fairport High School

The Fairport High School project consists of a 40,000 sq. ft. addition that includes a new front entrance, principal and attendance offices, 12 classrooms, audio visual rooms, and a state-of-the-art library expansion. The goal was to meet the specific needs of each of these spaces while simultaneously updating the building's exterior appearance. Although the design solution remains sympathetic to the aesthetics of the existing school, the new addition is a more accurate representation of the progressive nature of the Fairport Central School District.

The library, which accounts for the bulk of the addition, is used to create hierarchy on a previously undistinguished facade. Airy and skylit, the interior of the library is designed to hold 250 students, 22,000 volumes, five years of periodicals, and computer equipped carrels. Most important, the space creates a positive learning environment with an emphasis on the educational needs of the students, faculty and administration.
